The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has issued the official registration certificate for the file "Providing Service and Hospitality during the Arbaeen Visit" on the list of intangible cultural heritage of humanity, which was prepared and completed with exceptional efforts over more than three years by the Karbala Center for Studies and Research at the Holy Hussayniya Shrine in collaboration with the Department of Public Cultural Relations, and the file was submitted through the Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Antiquities according to the official criteria and procedures approved by UNESCO.

In the same context, the organization issued the registration certificate for the file "The Date Palm, Skills, Knowledge, and Traditions" which is a joint project between Iraq and Arab countries, where the Fadak Date Palm Project, affiliated with the Holy Hussayniya Shrine, played a significant role in the file, being one of the most important pioneering and sustainable date palm projects in Iraq.

It is noted that the members of the international committee at UNESCO voted on the two files during their meeting held in Bogotá, Colombia from December 9–14, 2019, which was attended by the delegations of Karbala Center for Studies and Research and the Department of Public Cultural Relations. In this regard, UNESCO congratulated Iraq for registering its two files on the list of intangible cultural heritage of humanity.


On Saturday, December 14, 2019, the Karbala Center for Studies and Research at the Holy Hussayniya Shrine held a press conference regarding the inclusion of (Fadak Farm) and (Hospitality and Service Provision during the Arbaeen Visit of Imam Hussein, peace be upon him) on the list of intangible cultural heritage of humanity at UNESCO, with the presence of a large number of Iraqi media outlets at the Khatam al-Anbiya Hall. The file, which was submitted by the Karbala Center for Studies and Research at the Holy Hussayniya Shrine in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Antiquities, had been worked on for three years.

Under the supervision of His Eminence the Legal Custodian Sheikh Abd al-Mahdi al-Karbala’i (may God protect him), the Karbala Center for Studies and Research submitted the file to the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization, UNESCO, and after discussing the file, it was unanimously voted for.

Mr. Abdul Amir Al-Quraishi, the Director of the Center, spoke about UNESCO's decision, which was issued on Thursday, December 12, 2019, "The inclusion of Hospitality and Service Provision during the Arbaeen Visit of Imam Hussein, peace be upon him, on the list of intangible cultural heritage of humanity, with a unanimous vote on the decision, in addition to the inclusion of Fadak Farm for Date Palms on the UNESCO list."

At the end of the conference, Mr. Abdul Amir Al-Quraishi expressed his sincere thanks and great gratitude to His Eminence the Legal Custodian of the Holy Shrine, the General Secretary, and all the workers at the Holy Hussayniya Shrine, and also expressed his thanks to the honorable brothers and sisters in the Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Antiquities, especially Ms. Iman Abdul Wahab Al-Aqqili, for her effective and distinguished contribution to the completion of the file.
